Unfortunately, King's Quest I: Quest for the Crown is completely outdated by contemporary standards, and is practically unplayable by any gamer who's less than 30 years old. It was the first game to allow you to move and interact through settings in 2.5 dimensions, not to mention the first modern graphic adventure as we know them today.
Note that the subtitles were disabled in the official release of this game, so some subtitles may be wrong or missing.King's Quest I: Quest for the Crown is a remake of the original game developed by Roberta Williams, first launched in 1984. Only ScummVM's audio options can be used to toggle this feature. There is no in-game option to toggle speech and text. In ScummVM, it is possible to enjoy a combined mode, where both speech and text are shown at the same time.
It should be safe to replace any other files from later CDs that were copied already from earlier CDs. Rename the RESOURCE.SFX from each CD to RESSFX.00, and the RESOURCE.AUD from each CD to RESAUD.00, to match the corresponding RESSCI.00 file that exists on each CD.
